Why are your classes substantially lower than other driving schools?
Caswell Group Driving School was formed to offer students affordable, accessible, and convienent options to receive driver education to increase the number of safe and defensive drivers on the roadway.
What is Proof of School Attendance, and how do I get one for my teen?
Applicants under the age of 18 must prove they are enrolled in school and making satisfactory progress. The parent or teen must ask their current school to complete a Certificate of Compulsory School Attendance, and take this form with them to the DMV. The form is valid for only 30 days.

Caswell Group Driving School has many things planned to serve the residents of Tennessee. Our goal is to be innovative and strategic thinkers on how we can provide more affordable opportunities to increase the number of safe and defensive drivers on the roads.
How do I schedule a class for the teens in my school, church, or organization?
Please contact us at 901-552-5602. We are happy to offer classes at your location, but there is a process we must follow to include getting approval to add your location as a testing site. We recommend starting this process 30 days in advance as approval must go through the Tennessee Driver Training and Testing Program. Once approved, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) must be drafted and signed by both parties.
Do you offer group discounts?
At this time, we do not offer group discounts because our price is already lower than most driving schools. This may be evaluated in the future and may change.
Will I be able to train on a simulator?
Simulator training is available as part of our Driver Education packages and as a stand alone training opportunity. Participants may reserve time on the simulator based on availability by visiting the Simulator/Test Prep page. Simulator practice is available in 2-hour time slots.
I don't have proof of school attendance, can I use a Tennessee High School diploma or G.E.D.?
If they have already graduated, they must bring their high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with them when they apply at a Tennessee DMV.
What is your refund policy?
We do not provide refunds; however, we will work with you to reschedule your class if applicable. A $15 reschedule fee may be applied if deemed necessary by administration.
When can I start driver education?
All students must be 15 years old to start driver education. We do not do hardships (14 years old) at this time.
Will this class prepare me for learner's permit?
This class will provide the education and curriculum that will be on your learner's permit. It is up to you to retain and study the information presented to successfully pass the written test. This class does not guarantee you will pass the Learner Permit, but we will provide you with the material to assist you:

- Notebook for Note-taking
- Writing Utensils
- Tennessee Comprehensive Manual
Do I need a learner's permit to start class?
No, you do not need your learner's permit to start the classroom or behind-the-wheel/simulator training (although we highly recommend having your learner's permit prior to completing behind-the-wheel). You do need your permit (and teens must hold for 180 days) prior to completing the state road test.
Does classroom hours have to be completed prior to starting behind-the-wheel?
Yes, classroom hours must be completed prior to starting behind-the-wheel. The process is classroom, simulator, then in the car training.
What happens if I miss a class?
You will have to wait until the next upcoming class and complete the class on the day you missed (ex. 1, 2, 3, or 4).
How long are the driving lesson?
We offer one hour and two hours to provide a wide range of driving experience. On weekends, we only offer one hour effective October to allow more students to schedule. Each student must complete two hours on the simulator and four hours behind the wheel.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule a driving lesson?
We understand things happen, so rescheduling and cancelling a driving lesson is appropriate. Please provide 24 hour notice so we can adjust our schedule accordingly. If 24 hour notice is provided, no charge will be applied. If 24 hour notice is not provided, a $50 fee will be applied to your account.
Are your instructors licensed?
Yes. All behind-the-wheel instructors have went through the necessary training and testing to become Certified Instructors with the State of Tennessee.
Will I have other students in the car with me?
No. It will be just the student and the Instructor. There may be an additional Instructor in the backseat for training purposes.
When can I start the behind-the-wheel lessons?
After successful completion of classroom hours, students are ready to proceed with scheduling behind-the-wheel. Please understand we are short staffed, but we do our best to push our students through quickly. We encourage students to successfully pass the knowledge test prior to scheduling behind the wheel. It will make their in car training more successful.
Do you offer home pick-up and drop-off?
We do not offer transportation services for scheduled services. Parent, gaurdian or student (adults) will be responsible for timely arrival to all appointments. Cancellations must be received 24-hours before the appointment, or participant will be charged a $50 cancellation fee
Are you approved with Department of Safety (DOS)?
Yes, we are approved by the Department of Safety to offer 4 hour and 8 hour defensive driving
Do you provide a certificate of completion?
Yes, we do provide a certificate of completion via email. For the 4 hour, you will receive a certificate immedialy upon completion. For the 8 hour, certificates are emailed within 48 hours after class is completed, if account is 0 balance. Students are responsible for mailing/emailing the certificate of completion to TDHOS.
Students are responsible for making sure that all other requirements are met (ex. SR22, reinstatement fee).
How do I know which class to attend - 4 hour or 8 hour?
It depends on what the court-ordered. Please clarify prior to attending/registering for class. The letter should specify. If you are wanting to complete a course to reduce points or receive a discount on auto insurance, the 4-hour course should suffice.
Will this class decrease my insurance?
For many insurance providers, a Certificate of Completion from our school will qualify for a discount on auto insurance. However, please check with your insurance company prior to registration for the course because it is different depending on the insurance provider (if applicable).
How do I get a duplicate copy of my Certificate of Completion?
If students need a copy of your certificate of completion, please email schedulingcaswellgroup@gmail.com. We keep certificates on file for one year.
What is the difference between defensive driving and driver improvement?
Driver Improvement and Defensive Driving are interchangeable terms. Driver Improvement courses may be court-ordered, taken for points reduction, driver's license reinstatement, insurance premium reduction, or personal education.
Can people with learning disabilities go through your program?
We welcome all students, however we are not trained or certified to teach individuals that are on the spectrum. We highly recommend Maxwell Driving School who has a program specifically designed around students on the spectrum. They are also certified in this area. We feel you/your child will see more productivity in that program.
How do you handle students with mental illness?
We welcome all students, however if a mental illness is suspected, the Director will notify the student/family and request a doctor note clearing you/your child to drive. This is for the safety and protection of all involved.
